Pathfinders Youth Canoe Club exists to provide kayaking and canoeing opportunities for young people from 11 to 18 years.
The club meets at the club site in Wilsham Rd. Abingdon most Monday evenings between April and September. Club nights involve river trips on the Thames, Ock and backwaters as well as white water training on local weirs. We also train members for the British Canoe Union Awards.
Day and weekend trips are arranged to various locations such as the Nene Whitewater Centre at Northamptonand the more challenging River Tryweryn in North Wales. For those with suitable experience winter paddling trips on the Welsh whitewater rivers are arranged. There is also the opportunity to take part in small local events. We are developing freestyle and whitewater racing. This year we are taking a small group to paddle whitewater rivers in the Julian Alps of Slovenia.
Many of our members go on to make paddling a lifetime opportunity going on to paddle rivers in the Alps, Turkey, Nepal, Uganda and other parts of the world.
The club is run by qualified B.C.U.Coaches and all sessions are supervised by coaches or suitably experienced adult kayakers.
We normally like new members to have done a little paddling before so they are roughly at B.C.U. One star level. If you have had no kayaking experience at all you can join the club Beginner`s course (See link on the left).
You can also do the same course in the morning OR afternoon during a week of the summer holidays. For this course you must contact Vale Sports Development direct on 01235 547646.
